Four Ordinances Approved During Board of Alderman Meeting

The New Haven Board of Aldermen was scheduled to meet Monday, March 11, at 7 p.m.

Kevin Tochtrop of Tochtrop & Associates gave a presentation on the City’s Audited Financial Report for the 2022-23 Fiscal Year, which was found to be materially correct. The City had a single audit due to having federal funds totalling over $750,000. Overall, Tochtrop stated that the audit was good and passed peer review.

When asked by Robert Fogg if there was a timeline established for acquiring a new police force, Major T.J. Wild of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) said that their office was still reviewing things. Added Mayor Jason Addison, the agreement with their office was for 6 months and we will not know anything for sure until after this arrangement has concluded.

Joan Fearetherston read a letter she had written, suggesting that anyone with concerns regarding the City respectfully and responsively submit them in writing, as well as for any suggested solutions.

EMA Director David Cruz asked if the FCSO could set off the tones in cases of bad weather, to which the Board and Major Wild agreed. Major Wild was given a key to the building.

During public comments, Linda Milne explained that she had contacted Attorney General Andrew Bailey, Representative Kyle Marquart and Mr. Banderman about polar vortex price gouging, something which she has also discussed with Alderman Gary Rustige. With the price gouging being three years old, she is seeking the help of people of all levels in order to get the City’s money back. During the Council Report, Alderman Rustige thanked Milne for her efforts and said he does not want the polar vortex to happen again. On May 9, he wants to hand deliver letters to the state representative.

John Witte asked how to reach his alderman, and was told to use email, phone, or place a note in the drop box.

Four ordinances were approved by the board, and can be learned about in this week's (3/20) edition of The New Haven Independent News.
