Shamrocks Fall 4-3 To Christian In Nail-Biter

The Shamrocks (2-9) fell 4-3 in an extra-inning thriller to Christian High School (7-8) on Friday, Apr. 19.

New Haven came in hot with a one-run lead in the top of the 1st. Trevor Hinten barreled a hard ground ball for a single and then sneaked to second base. Jacob Gerdes hammered a grounder; the Eagles made an error, and Hinten capitalized on it to take home.

Christian then approached the plate and responded with a run to tie it 1-1.

After three straight outs stole New Haven’s chance on offense in the top of the 2nd, the Eagles rose to bat again and clawed through the bases for a 2-1 lead.

The Shamrocks bounced back at the plate in the 5th inning. Jace Ritchie kicked off the rally by smoking a grounder for a single. Then Cole Nieman bunted and reached third due to an error by Eagles pitcher Cohen Ring. Ritchie capitalized on the mistake to tie it 2-2. Then Weston Hecktor stepped up to bat and smashed a grounder that drove Hecktor home to put New Haven ahead by a run.

Christian tied it again at 3-3 in the bottom of the 6th, which carried the game into the 8th, where the Eagles would clutch the game-winning score.

New Haven’s batting lineup chalked up five hits, two walks and an RBI with 31 at-bat appearances.
